Art Post – Happy Halloween

Here’s the quote on quote Halloween picture I said I was going to do… I realized as I was doing this, that if you have a bunch of characters who are members of the undead who make up your web comic’s cast… You don’t really have to try too hard to stick them into a Halloween themed drawing. Sure, I could’ve made it a little more on point by adding a jack-o-lantern to the background or something… But I’m lazy with backgrounds and kinda of hate doing them, so I used something I got off of Google as a basis and modified it to better match the picture. Still, even though I edited the background to make it a whole heck of a lot less detailed and fairly hard to recognize in comparison to the original picture, credit where credit is due. (They’re a heck of a lot more talented than me, that’s for sure, so they deserve the recognition)

Anyways, I chose to not use and Alex and Kitsiyuna for this one and decided I should let my antagonist get a chance to be shown off for once. I figured that a witch/necromancer and her skeletal minion would be appropriate enough for the holiday, so I went and drew Shira with a witch’s hat and Styx without his face being covered up for the picture.

And yes, in case you couldn’t tell from the comics, Styx is supposed to be a skeleton. I was going to show that off at the end of Comic 67, but I sort of rewrote how the aftermath of that fight went down so I didn’t really have a chance to show that off. Styx was originally going to actually reveal himself to everyone as the guy responsible for creating the Poltergeist and tell Alex that his boss was interested in recruiting him, but I padded the ending to the fight up to that point so that it would end after I did exactly 100 pages. So, in order to move the story along, I just decided to cut that bit and save the reveal of his face for another time… which I suppose is right now… Anyways, that change to the story has made me decide to change how Shira is going to approach attempting to recruit Alex. She’s going to be sly and cunning about it instead of using a more direct approach I was originally going to have her use. Because of this change, her actions are going to be more subtle in how they affect Alex and Kitsiyuna. Which in turn, I feel is going to allow me to have her show up a bit more frequently in the comic with her scheming than I originally was planning. I actually wrote her into the next story arc because of that. So there you have it: Some useless trivia that none of you guys probably cared to know!

At any rate, I hope you guys enjoy the drawing and enjoy the holiday. (Though, I’m sure most of the people who would be reading the comic would be just a little bit past the age where it’s okay for them to be trick-or-treating, so not as much to enjoy at that point…) With all of that, I’ll see you next comic.

I did not make these panels as big as I needed them to be when I was drawing this comic. Oh well, that’s what happens when I don’t use the entire page in my sketchbook to draw a comic… I end up with a loooooooooot of really large gaps in between the panels…

Anyways, I’ve got the Halloween drawing done and ready to post on Friday, so there’s that. But other than that bit of news, I’ve got nothing else to report this week (surprising at this point I know). So until then, I’ll see you next post.

I’ve totally never done something like this to avoid having to interact with people… Toooooooootally have never done this before, no sirree bob… *cough* 18 times *cough* *cough*

My absolutely infallible denial aside, it has come to my attention that Halloween is coming up soon. It has also come to my attention that my comic places heavy emphasis on the existence of spirits and the supernatural. And it has also been further brought to my attention that those things and Halloween apparently go hand and hand. And yet: I’ve got nothing special planned for the holiday! Anyways, I decided to remedy that by making another one of them art post I’ve been known to sporadically do in the past related to Halloween… Kind of. Now, the reason that I’m announcing that I’m doing this is, is that in case I get EXTREMELY lazy and not actually get something done by then, you people can hold me accountable for it. Seriously. Like, if that does happen, I want you people to get extremely disappointed with me.

Anyways, until then, I’ll see you next comic.

Remember when this web comic was just a jolly ol’ romp following a random asshole who didn’t have a bunch of mental and self-esteem issues alongside an inner demon trying to goad him into killing himself while in his dreams? Pepperidge Farm remembers… Or something… Coincidentally, does anyone else think Androgynous Nightmare Fucker would make for an awesome band name? At the very least, I think it would be a pretty good name for some kind of heavy metal song.

Anyways, my family survived the hurricane completely unscathed despite living in an area that floods whenever there is a trivial amount of rain, so there’s that bit of good news. Not quite sure how we managed that, but hey, that’s just how life works. But other than that, not much else to report on. So until then, I’ll see you next comic.

To those of you who don’t know what a furry is…

Where the hell have you been on the Internet for the past 15 or so years!?

Anyways, here’s another comic with characters just talking to one another. While certainly not as ambitious as those fight sequences I attempted doing, I still think comics like these are way more interesting to do in the long run of the comic. They give me a good chance to better show off characters’ personalities and how they interact with one another. Like in this one, I get a chance to explain why Kaz puts up with Alex’s shit: It gives him an opportunity to do something more in his relatively boring and mundane life. It’s here that I’m hoping that we’ll get to start seeing some character development in Kaz where he takes a more active role in helping out Alex and Kitsiyuna. I know what you’re thinking… character development in a work of fiction? YOU MAD MAN! NO ONE HAS EVER ATTEMPTED SUCH A THING AND LIVED TO TELL THE TALE!

…So yeah, I like my stories to be character driven. I wouldn’t think that’s too big of a surprise at this point with how I’ve been handling the comic and its jokes up to this point. At any rate, I didn’t really have much news, other than I might have to suffer through a category 5 hurricane this week. The most recent tropical storm that hit my house did knock out my power for a day, and may have had a hand in killing off the monitor to my desktop (the next day after I got power back was when it started turning off on me repeatedly). Which is why, with this week’s update, I didn’t take any chances and got it ready to upload early. Whether or not the hurricane actually hits or does anything, has yet to be seen. I’m thinking the worst that’s going to happen to where I live is that it’s going to knock out power for a day again leaving me with nothing to do but to play solitaire to help slave off the boredom… If something does happen though, I’ll keep you posted. So until then, I’ll see you next comic.
