Wouldn’t be one of my fights without an entire page of all the characters just chatting with one another instead of just, you know… FIGHTING. I’m trying to get better at spacing out these massive talks, I swear! Any who, don’t really have too much of substance I want to bring up this week, so until then, I’ll just see you all next comic.

So when I first decided to add this fight to the story, I didn’t really have a finalized design for what the Sinnejion was going to look like. The only thing I was going off of was a tiny 2 inch large sketch I had drawn years ago (I also forgot where the name Sinnejion even came from in that period of time). My memory of what I originally intended this thing to look like was a bit hazy, but I believe my first design was trying to invoke something similar to an Evir, a creature from Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. Of course, when it came to properly finalizing the design for the comic, because I ended up adding those tentacle jokes to the prelude of the fight, and the original design that I was using as inspiration didn’t really have tentacles, I ultimately ended up going with a more “octopussy” look instead. The more you know and what not. Anyways, that’s all for this week, so until then, I’ll see you all next comic.

You wanna know something that takes me a lot longer than it probably should when it comes to doing these fight sequences? Figuring out the onomatopoeias for most of the damn SFX. Sure, you can have your generic slams, whams, booms, and bams and they’ll work just fine for the msot part… but what the hell is the generally agreed upon sound for a raging inferno? Or something being sliced off with magic? There really isn’t one, so invariably I have to try to imagine the stupid sound in my head as best I can and think about what weird ass combination of consonants (for the harder to place sounds, it’s almost never vowels) closest invokes that sound. And even then, you still kind of have to hope that the reader embellish some of the sounds in their head… Like, when you see “REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” spelt out in a comic for a sound, your first instinct isn’t going to think of a high powered stream of fire that’s supposed to sound like a jet engine taking off, which in all honesty is the closest onomatopoeia I could come up with for said sound… It’s probably just going to make you think of an autistic person screeching if you’ve been on the internet for a while…

Where am I going with this rambling about SFX in comics? Eh, nowhere really. It was just something that working on some of the later pages of this fight had me thinking about. Just remember, if you’re not over embellish all of those sounds in your head, you’re doing it wrong! Anyways, that’s all from me, so until then, I’ll see you all next comic.

Fight sequence incoming! You all know the drill people, considering this is like the 7th one we’ve done at this point. This particular fight though might not have quite as much “radio silence” as it were on my end in comparison to older ones I’ve done, but at the very least, for this week in particular, I really don’t have too much to actually say. Rather than rambling on for several paragraphs about nothing in particular, I’ll just end things here, so until then, I’ll see you next comic.
